Frequently asked questions

I’m using a midwife. Could I still benefit from a doula?

100%. Some midwives require you to hire a doula. A midwife is a medical professional. A doula, on the other hand, works for the birthing mom. A doula's main goal is the comfort of the birthing woman in all aspects; emotionally, physically, spiritually and in any other ways she may need support. This is achieved by ensuring that their emotional and physical needs are met during and following the birth process.

I’m planning on a hospital birth with a doctor. Can you still attend?

Absolutely - yes! We feel passionate about helping mothers have their dream hospital birth. With that comes helping them to FIND and USE their voice to advocate for what they desire for their birth experience.

If I use a doula, can I still have an epidural?

Yes, yes, yes! Doulas do not only assist in unmedicated births, which is a common misconception. If you look into what a doula provides during birth for their clients, you can see their role goes far beyond unmedicated comfort measures and progression. I am here to help you emotionally, be a voice of reason, help you advocate for your birth plan, and so much more.

Where did you complete your training?

We are DONA-certified Doulas. Additionally, under Robin Elise Weiss, Emily Thompson has completed a Birth Doula Workshop, an Intro to Childbirth Course, and a Lactation Class. We see our trainings and education as a continual progression. Our team plans to pursue future courses and accreditations to further our knowledge to be the best we can be for our clients.

Can I message you with questions during my pregnancy?

Yes, anything and everything! An open line of communication is strongly encouraged, providing us more insight into you, your concerns, your comfort measures, and what is going on with your baby. This helps to build trust between the you and your doula and when it comes time for your birth, we will not only feel more comfortable with one another but will truly feel united as a team.

Does a doula replace a partner during birth?

Not in the slightest! A doula will not replace your partner during your birth and a good doula recognizes that your support system needs support, too. We will specifically talk through this during your prenatal visits.

What is your personal birth experience(s)?

Emily loves sharing about her births and you can read about both of her experiences on the blog portion of our website. You'll find these posts under “Roeby Jane’s Birth Story” and “Briggs Grey’s Birth Story”

When should I secure my doula services?

The sooner the better! We have limited spaces each month/year, so the sooner you book, the sooner we can get things rolling with prenatal meetings, creating your birth plan, getting to know one another more in-depth, etc.

You sound like the perfect fit for my birth team! What do I do now?

The best place to start is with a complimentary consultation. During your consultation, we will briefly get to know one another, discuss your general birth goals and take time to think through how we can best support you and your birthing partner. Fill out the contact form here on my website and we will be in touch soon!
